As promised - a little extra credit opportunity!

US News & World Report is running an interesting op-ed piece by Gloria Borger titled "The Dems' Immigration Dilemma" about the challenge Democrats face addressing immigration reform. Give it a good read and spout off your thoughts and opinions about immigration reform, illegal immigration, and/or what the candidates are doing or should be doing about it all..

Now, if you read the article closely, there is a not-so-subtle message about how politicians are expected to form their opinions about the issues of the day.  Let's see if anyone picks up on that subtle message...!  Post by midnight Tuesday the 22nd for extra credit.

Terms to know: dais, stalking horse, and ipso facto

  1. Alrighty...well after reading the article on immigration I can't decide who to agree with. I can see both point of views. One reasons why immigrants should be at least limited is that when they can to America and they get jobs maybe for less pay then a normal man would work for making the man lose his job. But of the other hand if they are people being persecuted, and they are dieing of food, I think that is only right of us to left them come over. I don't really know though it could go both ways.

  2. Greg... Mexicans are NOT coming cause they're persecuted. Mexicans Have just as much religious freedom as we do. They are not dying of hunger (otherwise they wouldn't be able to survive the long walk through the desert). The fact is illegal immigration is ILLEGAL!!! I hate it how Bush is trying to give them a path to citizenship. Sorry I don't remember what article it is but one bill he proposed (thankfully it was overturned by congress) would have given more rights to Illegal Immigrant than the legal ones! Basically Illegal Immigrants disgust me. They're just coming over the border cause they're jealous that our economic system is so much better than there's. Why is it SO hard for them to apply for a green card? Why can't they work to make their country better economically instead of dragging themselves over here to make OUR country worse. Let's take Japan for example in 1854 it was opened to the rest of the world and less than a century later it was challenging that world Militarily. Today It's making cars, toys, etc.. A Economic system that is quite superior to ours (in my opinion). In case you all don't know Mexican's steal thousands of dollars from us every day. Free tax supported emergency hospital care for example... Basically the average Illegal Immigrant is a man with a wife and kids he's trying to support back in Mexico right? EXACTLY He's 1. Taking a job from an American illegally and 2. sending it off to Mexico so it can bless that country economically. My gosh if Mexican's are gonna be Like this why is there even a Mexican country? How bout a Mexican State? Politicians need to fight illegal immigration in EVERY way possible INCLUDING shipping back those illegals. Otherwise theres no point in there being a law on immigration anyway. So Why does the piece seem so sure Hillary will enforce Immigration laws? Also Mr. D, You may want to add PANDER to the "Terms to Know" Ya basically I wonder Why we even have to debate this if its legal then shouldn't we be enforcing it? Shouldn't Mexicans be being shipped back to Mexico until laws are made to stop it? I mean hey Politicions aren't discussing whether they should stop drug dealers, they're just simply are some weird Politicions that think we should legalize various illegal drugs. Ya I may sometimes sound racist or incompassionate on this topic but I blame the Mexicans for THAT too.

  3. Jimmy I think you are being more than just racist or uncompassionate. You are being judgmental. You said yourself and I quote, "Basically the average Illegal Immigrant is a man with a wife and kids he's trying to support back in Mexico right?" So Jimmy ask yourself this....What would you do if you were in their situation? Would you stay in a country where providing for your family was hard or would you do anything possible (maybe even illegal) to make sure your family was taken care of? OK...I am done. Any way, on the issue of immigration I agree that we do need to put a stop or some restrictions on illegal immigrants. The rate that they are coming in at I do not know how border patrol is not catching most of them. Can America help Mexico at all? If we can try to help Iraq rebuild their country why can we not try to help Mexico rebuild their economy? I feel that Democrats are just waiting for a candidate to take a stand on this issue. They really do not care which candidate it is. They want a candidate to try something and mess up. If a candidate messes up it is only on the candidate’s head not the whole Democratic Party.

  4. Thats like asking me if I would steal to keep from starving. IT'S STILL WRONG!

  5. I would have to agree with Greg and say that the immigration should be limited because immigrants might come over here and work for less pay cause they are just happy to be here and then a lot of Americans would be put out of work or given less pay because of it.But a few immigrants are really persecuted and come to America so they will no starve to death so i would not say immigration should be cute of all together. And as Jessica said many illegal immigrants are males or females who come all the way over here so they can support there family back home. And they do have to make a long "path to citizenship" because it is so hard for them to become citizens in america.I would still have to say that immigration is bad for the most part because it will send the U.S down the tubes.

  6. If people want to come to America, i dont blame them. Americas a sweet place to be...but i dont think we should make it a walk in the park to become a citizen. If people want to come here, they better be willing to work for it. BUT i am completely 100% against illegal immigration. I agree with what jimmy said...they aren't going through persecution and they aren't dying...so, if you really want to become an American, work for it. And when it comes to the democrats and blada blada blada...let people think for themselves. If Hilary wants to be for immigration, let her be. Don't try and change people. We need to see how people really are anyways...and people like Gloria Borger are really annoying. Um...this is short, i know, but what more is there to say? Im against illegal immigration. And Im against people thinking that everyone has to think exactly the same and if they dont, then they are wrong...thats dumb. any ways, later.
